The Outburst Performance Gallery Replaces Fishtank Theater In Kansas City Crossroads

It has been a year of pain and then triumph for one of the top denizens of the Kansas City creative class . . . Susanna Lee (aka Lucky DeLuxe) is the daughter of former KC radio star Jay Cooper, who died in April; Tim Finn wrote a recent EPIC profile and review of her latest show which is much better than anything this blog could compose.

And now . . .

Ms. Lee is taking over the Fishtank Theater space in the Crossroads and turning it into something new. Here's her social media message for those who haven't already seen it . . .

"As of noon-ish today, I am the owner of the Outburst Performance Gallery, in beautiful #kansascity, MO. I own it, totally legal and legit, like forms filled out, accepted, paid for, and everything. I have a place of my own, finally a place I truly belong. A home for my wonderful weirdness, and for yours, too. This is a home for performances and performers that don't always fit in the pre-made boxes, for those who use the stage as a canvas, and words as our paint . . ."

A bit more insight into her upcoming venue . . .

The Outburst Performance Gallery is Kansas City's newest place for offbeat, cutting-edge entertainment. Located in the Crossroads district, an epicenter for progressive arts, The Outburst regularly showcases multiple performance arts genres, including stand-up, spoken word, solo shows, storytelling, live music and more. All tickets are $15 or less, with most events running $10. 18 & over."

This is a bittersweet but hopeful transition for fans of The Fishtank but also a realization that times change and a new generation of performer is taking over the local entertainment scene.

Developing . . .
