TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! HERE'S WHY KANSAS CITY GO BONDS CONFRONT AN URBAN CORE COALITION AGAINST MORE TAXES!!!

Over the past few weeks leaders in the urban core have become increasingly outspoken in their opposition to $800 MILLION worth of City Hall GO bonds.

A quick summary . . .

- People's Action Committee founder and Council contender Pat Clarke was the first to go on record against the bonds.

- Freedom, Inc. opposing the bonds sent shockwaves through the local political community.

- MO House Rep. Brandon Ellington opposition to the GO Bonds earned widespread support from both sides of the aisle and among the GOP-dominated Missouri House.

- The Urban Summit is also on record in opposition to the GO Bond Plan . . .

- Kansas City's Black & Brown Collation recently voted against supporting KCMO Go Bonds.

While politicos and consultants are making a pitch to the middle-class for this effort here's a glimpse at why that argument isn't playing in the urban core . . .

Higher Property Taxes Hits Kansas City Fixed Income Home Owners Harder


Even debatable promises of a "modest property tax increase" elicit fear from Kansas City urban core homeowners who simply don't have any more to give. Moreover, when we talk about the prospect of this tax increase rising over time . . . Opposition from inner city residents to any additional levy should be expected.

Kansas City Urban Core Already Drowning In Higher Water Bills


While rising water bills are an annoyance for the middle-class and suburbanites, outcry among the urban core regarding these budget busting costs is constant. Water rates have doubled over the past few years with no end in sight . . . These hidden taxes have residents throughout the city opposed to any additional increase in household costs.

City Manager Troy Schulte Confronts Kansas City Urban Core Skepticism


Finally, the topic of presentation is worth noting. City Manager Troy Schulte is a nice guy but he's not a great salesman. Moreover, the campaign team for this effort has YET AGAIN failed to hire many urban core denizens in order to buy support. The poor lack of planning, messaging and public outreach puts the campaign at a disadvantage.

Meanwhile, all of this might not be a big deal if not for the fact that THE NORTHLAND ALSO HATES THE GO BONDS.

And so, amid so much culture war bickering and debate . . . It's nice to see that increasing resistance to MORE TAXES is something that unites an increasing number of Kansas City residents.
