Kansas City Punk Rock Legacy

A nice old school note about local history from Kansas City citizen media:

Went to check out the Godfather Of Punk Jonathan Richman at the Record Bar last night.

"Kansas City had an unspoken effort in the late 70s and 80s to ban Punk Rock music as a means to protect the women and children from this "commie menace." We now fast forward 40 years and see the world has kept turning. Kansas City has a rich history of Heavy Metal acts to replace punk rock and help spawn bands like Metallica by selling out one of their first auditorium gigs here.

"We can always count on the Kansas City crowd to be drunk and obnoxious with their rants, screams and pick up lines. But it could be worse, we could be pole dancing on the clock across the street!"
