The self-proclaimed "biggest gangster in Kansas City" was sentenced Monday to 18 years in federal prison for illegally possessing a stolen firearm. DeMarko L. Collins, 28, was being investigated in connection with a 2015 homicide in Independence when detectives recovered a .45-caliber handgun from an apartment where he was living in North Kansas City.

Derby woman involved in fatal Kansas City collision

A Derby woman was involved in a collision that claimed the life of a 63-year-old Merriam woman Monday in Kansas City. Madysen Olivia Hutchinson, 18, was hospitalized with injuries. Sherry L. Miller died, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in a crash report.

Tractor-trailer overturns on I-70 early Tuesday, killing man

A Pennsylvania man died early Tuesday when a tractor-trailer overturned on I-70 near Adams Dairy Parkway, police said. The single-vehicle crash was reported about 1 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-70. The Missouri Highway Patrol identified the driver as Gerard Holterback, of Kersey, Pennsylvania. The crash remains under investigation.

Early morning shooting in Raytown sends two people to hospital

Police responding to a report of shots being fired early Tuesday in Raytown found two people with non-life-threatening injuries. The double shooting happened about 1:40 a.m. in the 6700 block of Harris Avenue. Both victims were taken to a hospital. Detectives continued to investigate the shooting.

Time-lapse cameras that were set up to capture the construction at CityPlace also captured the destruction of a massive fire at the Royale Apartments. The cameras show that Monday's fire quickly went from just a few flames to a towering inferno in only a few minutes.
