Our favorite Kansas City newspaper in the whole wide world is cutting back its publishing schedule but still remains defiant and AWESOME.

Here's the scoop:

TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! OUR BLOG COMMUNITY WARNED THAT THE PITCH IS MOVING TO A MONTHLY PUBLISHING SCHEDULE AND JUST NOW EDITOR SCOTT WILSON CONFIRMED THE DRASTIC CUTBACK!!!

We've been pestering the very good people at The Pitch since Friday and they finally returned our messages via e-mail . . . Which was nice and actually very forthright . . .

TKC: Is The Pitch moving to a monthly publishing schedule?

Pitch Editor Scott Wilson: "Yes, our first monthly issue comes out in April."

Another question that has been coming from our blog community for quite a while . . .

We've been getting TONS of complaints about Barb Shelly's columns. Personally, I think she is a talented writer and her stuff is captivating BUT her columns are very mainstream liberal/progressive content - Which is fine, but obviously, a bit of a pivot from more classic Pitch fare that focused on snark rather than pure op/ed.

TKC question: What is your reaction to SOME negative feedback about the new partisan direction of the Pitch.

Pitch Editor: "We've always been progressive. This isn't a "pivot," as you put it, or a new direction. You said "partisan"; I didn't and wouldn't."

And so, at the outset of President Trump's election . . . The Pitch threw up a provocative cover that we thought was focused on the state of the nation . . . Now it seems the international symbol of distress might have more to do with the fate of this publication.



The KICK-ASS KANSAS CITY INSIDERS who warned us of this move should get a say . . .

"The Pitch moving to a monthly schedule makes them just a magazine. They were a newspaper and one of the best in Kansas City. I love the Pitch and it's sad to see them slowly declining . . . But if they're going monthly. Why bother?"

Don't get it twisted . . .

The Pitch has served as a vital source of journalism in Kansas City for more than a generation. Just recently, their story on Missouri corrections brought down a public official and helped to create a conversation about Show-Me State prison reform. But rather than opine about glory days or even lament the fact that they have have parted ways with some of their most beloved journalists. We're bringing the NEWS FIRST for our blog community and reporting a very real cutback currently underway from this beloved institution.
