Once again we bring bad tidings for the most controversial transit in Kansas City that continues to suffer a ridership drop-off amid a current arctic blast.
To wit . . .
KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR RIDERS REPORT LONG DELAYS, MORE BREAKDOWNS AND TOY TRAIN COLD WEATHER DESOLATION!!!
The stats from the KC Streetcar authority speak for themselves . . .

Still, the numbers don't tell the story and so we turn to KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS and their testimony of a tragic Christmas holiday disappointment aboard the empty toy train . . .

Here's the word . . .
"TKC, I'm sending this note because I'm frustrated with how the streetcar is being operated. First off, you should know that I'm a fan of what the readers of your blog call the "toy train" and during the Summer I was among THOUSANDS to ride the line downtown during the weekends.
Last night I had friends in town and we had a great idea - We would take the streetcar from the hotel to the Rivermaket, grab dinner, drinks and then ride back on the streetcar. We used the Crown Center link and things were going perfectly until we spent HALF AN HOUR in front of Union Station while the streetcar was stalled. The driver was behind the glass and didn't seem to want to answer any questions. Other passengers came aboard and then left when it was obvious the streetcar wasn't going anywhere. The doors were open so we were freezing our a$$es off the whole time. There was one other passenger who looked homeless and it seemed like a slightly better situation than anything else he could find that evening. I was frustrated so I shouted "Thanks a lot!" as we walked back inside and called an UBER instead.
When we returned I noticed that streetcar was STILL parked outside of Union Station and I doubt it ever moved. For the sake of our city and the future of the streetcar, we've got to get more people aboard and having DEPENDABLE rides should be the biggest part of that priority. Waiting in the cold for the streetcar isn't fun and that experience has ruined the impression of the streetcar for my friends and led me to question the future for the line."

And there you have it . . .
THE STREETCAR IS KILLING CHRISTMAS FOR KANSAS CITY TOURISTS!!!
Joking . . . I guess.
But the ridership plunge is for realz and so far streetcar cheerleaders have no encouraging answer to the troubling downward December trend.
Developing . . .
