Kansas City pet lovers are afraid of being caught up in the fray of city politics and now they're thinking about separating themselves from an EPIC push for nearly a BILLION dollars in general obligation (GO) bonds.
Here's the word from a local animal rights activist making this pitch to her fellow voters . . .
"Kansas City voters want to care for animals. We can stand on our own with this issue and only a petition of a few thousand could put our cause before voters who realize that KCMO truly does need a new shelter. Right now, we're being leveraged to fund a much bigger list of projects and I'm scared our efforts will be overshadowed and put on hold like they have been for so long..."
To wit . . .
ANIMAL LOVERS THREATENING 800 MILLION BUCKS WORTH OF CITY HALL CASH IS AN EPIC POWER MOVE THAT REVEALS VERY LITTLE SUPPORT FOR RUNNING UP MORE KANSAS CITY DEBT!!!
This notion of running the animal shelter independently has always been in the background BUT is now coming to light as desperately needed money for the KC Museum is now on the table . . .
A word from Council on this prospect . . .
"I guess we could run this thing by itself, I'd rather make sure that it was fully funded by (Mayor) Sly has been against putting the animal shelter from the get-go. He thinks more money for his reading program will win over voters. But he doesn't realize he's not as popular as he used to be . . . And people are sick of throwing money away on what the KCPS should be doing . . . So, yeah, we could approach this as a separate ballot issue altogether."
Fact it, this animal shelter is the best thing that the GO BOND pitch has going for it and neither students who can't read nor more infrastructure promises offer the same bit of clout . . . Newbie politico animal activists are starting to realize this as deets about the GO bond pitch become even more sketchy as the public demands to know how the money will be spent.
Developing . . .
