In fairness to both sides and in an effort to keep voters informed . . . Yesterday we published what petitioners had to say about the goals of their recall effort. Right now here's the response from the embattled councilman . . .
Chris Moreno- Lee's Summit City Council 4th District Statement On Recall Effort
One year ago today I signed up to take on the good ol' boy establishment. Despite all of their money and attacks we shocked them when we received more votes than any contested council candidate in Lee's Summit. In 8 short months, we have put an end to their illegal deals and business as usual.
In response, they intentionally misled November voters into signing a petition to overturn the will of the voters in April. Because they don't live in our district they had to use people that for the most part did not even vote in April's election to gather the signatures.
This time they have vowed to run a more personal and hatefully negative campaign against me. We expected that because all they know how to do is attack people that don't play ball their way.
What they don't understand is my wife and I were raised here. Lee's Summit has changed for the better. Our great city is for all of us, not just the select few. The people are sick and tired of this kind of establishment politics. They are tired of the special giveaways and no bid deals at all levels of government. They are tired of negative politics and establishment attempts to overturn the people's voice and vote. So I will take them on again in April, only this time our victory will be one for the ages!
