TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY AREA TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY HIRING CONTROVERSY!!!
Blind item backstory that previews upcoming Kansas City controversy which a great many insiders are talking . . . Take a peek at this word sent our way and realize that supporting the bus is cool BUT behind the scenes, the KCATA is just another screwed up local institutions confronting a great deal of public frustration and organizational discontent:
Serious trouble over his questionable KCATA gig
One of the top KCATA honchos (and the Board that voted to look the other way and hire him), is soon to be at the center of a major ethics scandal that has the potential to set the venerable transit organization back decades, or even (read between the lines here) WORSE for them. This honcho got his gig (and a VERY nice $150,000 pay raise - All negotiated above board, I'm sure) when he angled/leveraged his "position" so that his "friends" that he supervised at the KCATA would simply hand him the gig without anyone else even being interviewed, or any job search whatsoever being done. (Imagine that - What are the odds?)
At the time, THE KANSAS CITY TRANSIT HONCHO hiring raised many eyebrows as he has no real qualifications, experience, or educational background for the job (he only as a high school diploma) and his new gig previously required at least a masters degree or higher, and/or some actual management and transit experience (duh) to even be eligible to apply. And lest we forget, this KANSAS CITY TRANSIT HONCHO'S first major act upon getting his new job was to immediately help hire Frank White's son score a sweet low 5 figure gig. All quite innocent, and above board I'm sure they will tell you. Nothing to see here.
Now, however, additional and even more sordid details are emerging about the KCATA's hiring "process" that have come to light and may cast a MUCH (did I say MUCH?) more serious shadow than just the usual sketchy insider quid-pro-quo of local politics that got THIS HONCHO the job in the first place.
Stay tuned and strap in readers, there may be a bumpy ride ahead...
